ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic condition that affects approximately 3 million people in the U.S. alone. Comprising two conditions (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), IBD is characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract with periods of remission and relapse.

To help address the myriad challenges faced by IBD patients and their caregivers, Eli Lilly and Company (“Lilly”) is pleased to announce the Innovation Challenge: Transforming IBD Care to help identify innovative new ideas and solutions for patients living with this condition (“the Challenge”). The goal of the Challenge is to identify innovative ideas and potential solutions for better disease monitoring, management, and care for people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Sample topics include disease monitoring, condition management, clinical decision support, and care enhancement.

The Lilly Transforming IBD Care Challenge is a call for novel solutions for IBD patients, caregivers, and clinicians. What cutting edge technologies and systems — mobile apps, sensors and wearables, connected drug delivery devices, real-time monitoring systems, algorithms, digital games, etc. — can be deployed to enhance care and improve health and wellbeing of patients with IBD?

The Transforming IBD Care innovation challenge will be conducted in three phases: (1) launch and open submissions; (2) round one judging of submissions and selection of up to five finalists from the applicable entries; and (3) the live, in-person pitch event to take place at Lilly’s campus in Indianapolis with judging and the selection of a winner of the $50,000 (US) payment on November 21, 2019. In addition, Lilly may choose to work with the winner to further develop their product or concepts.
